A community is such a complex thing in our lives that does not get enough recognition. To me, a community is the people, places, and experiences that surround an individual. Communities are also the gaps in these common aspects of life. Being able to recognize both the similar and different people, places, and experiences in a community is extremely important. Communities may be people we lean on when things get tough, or people who will inspire us to be better each and every day. Communities shape who we truly are as a person.

My community consists of exactly those types of people. My family and friends, even my coworkers and educational instructors help shape me into the person I am today! Over the past few years it has become very obvious that our communities are what makes or breaks us as a society. Communities need to stick together in times of need and throughout social movements that will better the lives of those around us. Social movements involving putting a stop to hate against specific race groups have taken this country by storm and needs to continue, we need to change. When a community stands up for the individual’s within them, these movements tend to make a larger difference. Being a part of a community entails supporting everyone around you and using your voice for those who may not have one.

The collage of photos above shows what my community is made up of. I believe in equality and justice for everyone surrounding me. I believe that it is my community’s job to protect one another and support each other in whatever it may be. I involve myself in my community as much as I possibly can. I actively participate in social movements to the best of my ability. I feel as if the most noticeable thing I do for my community is unapologetically show my support for everyone, especially those facing social injustices daily. In my opinion, communities cannot have justice until there is absolutely no injustice. While at work I encourage those around me to work hard and to actively change the world we live in, for the better. I express the importance of a strong community to them and explain how they make up a community of their very own. I feel as if everyone should view and treat their communities as their own bubbles that they would never want to pop, because that is what it is. If one “sharp” thing comes in contact with a bubble the bubble will pop, much like a community if we allow negative things into our communities it may very well fall apart.

Communities play a huge role in everyone’s life, because everyone has one. I truly value a community and its ability to make change within itself. I feel like many communities strive with diversity and education of the lives within a community. If we create strong communities for ourselves, our lives will prosper with love and peace from within. Being part of a community means more than just living in a certain area, it involves being an active part of creating the best lives we can for one another.
